After a delayed start due to the coronavirus pandemic, the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) is set to get underway on 22 and 23 August, and Exol is giving its full backing to three teams including Newell & Wright Motorsport, Powell Motorsport and Taylors Transport.
Newell & Wright’s 1100BHP truck is built on a MAN TGS chassis and weighs 5.3 tonnes, and finished third last season. Powered by Exol’s market leading oils, the partnership looks set to thrive again.
Exol’s branding will feature on the side of the truck and most notably down the sleeves of experienced driver John Newell, who said: "Exol is a very important partner to the team and its high-quality products are used both on and off the track, throughout our 120-strong haulage fleet.”
Meanwhile, Powell Motorsport is keen to get back into the driver’s seat after narrowly missing out on top spot in 2019.
The MAN truck was fitted with a new cab last year, and this year the team have been putting in the hours of preparation and have fitted a whole new cooling system, including a new radiator.
Using Exol’s Taurus Euro 10W-40, the truck is able to benefit from a higher performance while keeping the engine cool thanks to greater thermal stability, which is particularly beneficial during the warmer weather.
An eager Steve Powell, Powell Motorsport’s driver, said: "Last year we finished on a high and we’re raring to go, especially as Donington is our favourite circuit. There’s no doubt that this year will be slightly different as a result of the pandemic, but we’re confident it’s going to be just as exciting as ever.
"We’re still able to connect with the fans as we will now livestream events and bring the adrenaline right into fans’ homes. It’s also going to be more competitive than ever before, with 20 trucks racing for the first time in BTRC history. We want to race and make no mistake we’re going for it this year.”
The most recent sponsorship agreement has been agreed with Taylors Transport and trucks will feature Exol branding throughout.
All teams are in regular contact with the technical team at Exol, using its Fluid Check analysis programme to check the performance of their truck’s fluids after each race.
