Exol-sponsored Newell & Wright place second in Round 2 of the British Truck Racing Championships

Exol-sponsored British Truck Racing team, Newell & Wright Motorsport, secured second place at Round 2 of the British Truck Racing Championships at Thruxton race circuit on 3rd and 4th July.

Driver John Newell qualified in 4th place with a lap time of 1:38, which is 1.2 seconds faster than any lap time the team have had at this track previously. He then finished 5th and 6th in the Saturday races and closed the event with 1st, 7th and 4th places on the Sunday. These scores led to a second place victory overall – and a place on the podium!

John will head back behind the wheel of his “New Generation MAN TGS” truck, which runs on Exol oil, for the next race event at Donington on 21st and 22nd August.

The circuit was not without its drama, as some drivers began cutting over the last part of the chicane onto the Start/Finish straight, meaning the Newell & Wright truck suffered a lot of damage to the front bumper. After two drivers collided in turn 1, John tried his best to avoid the collision, however the speed of these trucks often makes it impossible, and he hit the back of another driver’s MAN truck.

The rain set in on Sunday, which meant the track became slippery, however, not deterred, John’s driving was outstanding with a very impressive start thanks to the torque from the MAN D26 engine.
